Dubai police was set up during the late 1960's. A modern police establishment became essential as a result of the societal development that followed the discovery of oil.

With the development that the Dubai Police have gone through in the past years, the Public Relations Department has become the important link between Dubai Police and the public, as well as with other police sectors. In 1984, the Public Relations Department was affiliated to the General Directorate of Planning and Moral Guidance, as planning public relations complement each other in mapping out general policies. This has materialized on various fronts.
