Don’t miss either the Roman dam at the Proserpina reservoir, the biggest Roman-built reservoir in the whole of the Mediterranean and only five minutes from the city centre. Just 15 kilometres from Mérida is the Cornalvo National Park, more than 10,000 hectares of beautiful countryside and home to the Roman dam that helped supply the ancient city of Emerita Augusta with its water. There are also a number of fascinating guided tours to the Roman monuments such as the Theatre, Amphitheatre, Museum, Temples, Arabic castle, Mitreo House, Aqueducts ... During the months of July and August you can also enjoy a visit to the Mérida Theatre Festival.
